ABBOTTABAD

        Abbottabad city is located in the Hazara Region of the Khyber Pakhtun Khwa province in northeastern Pakistan. The city is situated in 110 kilometres (68 mi) north of the capital Islamabad , 130 kilometres (81 mi) from Rawalpindi and 150 kilometres (93 mi) northeast of Peshawar at an altitude of 1,260 metres (4,134 ft) and is the capital of the Abbottabad District. Kashmir lies to the east of the city.
                                                                 
       In the early 20th century, Abbottabad became an important military cantonment and sanatorium, serving as the headquarters of a brigade in the Second Division of the Northern Army Corps. The garrison consisted of four battalions of native infantry, of the Frontier Force (including the 5th Gurkha Rifles) and two native mountain batteries.


        In October 2005 Abbottabad was devastated by the Kashmir Earthquake. Although most of Abbottabad survived, many older buildings were destroyed or severely damaged. On 25 January 2011, Indonesian JI terrorist Umar Patek who was wanted in 2002 Bali Bombings as well as a series of 2000 church bombings was arrested in Abbottabad.
In May 2011, Abbottabad gained worldwide attention when U.S. President Barack Obama announced that Osama Bin Laden had been killed in his compound in Abbottabad city. After ninth months of  the incidence of Osama Bin Laden  the local government demolished his residence .
      The city is surrounded by the mountains of Sarban , Shimla and Thandiani. Lady Garden is a well known recreational place in Abbottabad. People visit the garden for amusement and admiration of its beauty. Lady Garden was named after Lady Gordon Green.
     The location of the city and the hills allows Abbottabad to experience pleasant weather in the summer and cold winters. The Dor river flows south of Abbottabad through the town of Harno, eventually reaching Tarbela Dam, situated west of Abbottabad. Neighbouring districts are Mansehra to the north, Muzzafarabad to the east, Haripur to the west and Islamabad Capital Territory to the south.Illyasi Masjid is the famous mosque of Abbottabad.

      Hindko is mostly spoken in Abbottabad while Urdu is  understood and spoken by most.Abbottabad is the headquarters of Hazara Division and Abbottabad District.The local government consists of Nazim , Naib Nazim, Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners. 6 Unions and  2 Tehsils  connect to Abbottabad. The city is also the regimental headquarters for the Frontier Force Regiment , the Baloch Regiment and Pakistan Army Medical Corps.Abbottabad's economy is largely based on tourism. It is known for its shady gardens, church bells and wide streets in the Old Cantonment which evoke the British colonial era.
       Mandian is the northern part of Abbottabad city. The population of this area is 100,000. The word Mandian means fruit or vegetable markets: it is a center of commerce with markets and businesses. Today Mandian is a busy hub of the city. Mandian is also known as Missile Chowk, because a Ghori Missile is installed there.Mandian has a small industrial estate, which promotes medium- and small-scale industries and provides employment to hundreds of people.
        Abbottabad is known as the city of schools. Abbottabad has one of the country's highest literacy rates ranking first in Khyber Pakhtun Khwa and second in all over Pakistan. The city also has a young demographic (ages 15–30) due to a large number of students who have come from across the country to study in its schools. There are a number of schools and colleges in Abbottabad namely Army Burn Hall College, Abbottabad Public School , Army Public College , Pakistan International Public School, Modernage, Modern School System, Beacon House School system , The City School . The city has a wide variety of post secondary institutions such as Ayub Medical College, Frontier Medical College ,Women Medical College, Frontier College of Commerce and Education, COMSATS University of Science and Technology , University of Engineering and Technology and Hazara University.Abbottabad is also home to the Pakistan Military Academy, a four-year coeducational  federal service military academy that provides training to the officers of the Pakistan Army. The academy has three training battalions, and 12 companies. Another 2,000 guests each year, from over 34 countries, receive some training at PMA.

Electronic and Print media is actively playing its role in Abbottabad. Cable Net Hazara is the largest cable operators of the region providing Pakistani Channels to the masses. Kay2 TV is the Hindko channel of the area.There are different daily newspapers published in Abbottabad. Some of the newspapers are Roznama AAJRoznama ShamalKay 2 TimesRoznama PineWeekly Manzar and the Hindko newspaper Chaita. The Daily Mahasib, published since 1997, is a local newspaper of the city.
With the boom of social media websites like HCP are also active in providing news to people of the region and is the first online portal of the Hazara Division.


             The Abbottabad Falcons are the professional cricket team of Abbottabad plays in the national Twenty 20and List A cricket tournaments. Apart from cricket, field hockey and taekwondo are the other popular sports here. Sports facilities in the city include Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Abbottabad Hockey Stadium,Jalal Baba Cricket Stadium Malik Pura, Abasin Karate & Martial Arts Training Center,Jansher Khan Squash Complex,.AMC-PCB Ground,Kunj Football Stadium,Nawanshehr Football Ground,Dhamtour Football Ground,Banda Lamba Football Ground,Kakul Ground,Barrahottar Cricket Stadium.
         Various tribes have been living in Abbottabad since the beginning such as Karlal,  Dhund Abbassi, Tanoli ,Awan , Rajpoots, Jadoon , Qureshi ,Gakhar, Sarrara ,Utmanzai. And the notables of Abbottabad and Hazara District relate to these tribes.
 
        Jalaluddin  was a politician and supporter of the Pakistan independence movement.Sadar Mir Ahmed was the successful entrepreneur .

Sardar Gul Zaman  , first Provincial Minister of Karlal tribe in 1974, MPA from PF37, a rich karrlal from Samundar Katha, a place where according to Tareekh-E-Frishta, Sikhs were defeated by Karlals under the rule of Hari Singh.He is the son of Sardar Mir Ahmed.
 Major Sardar Fazal ur Rehman a philanthropist and former politician of local government. Sardar Muhammad Aslam was the educationist. He was the author of various books and was the former Principal of Commerce College Abbottabad. Saradar Munawar Zaman is the philanthropist and bureaucrat. Amina Sardar is the first female MPA from Galliyat (a part of District Abbottabad).
